The Project ‘MIM – Enhancing Motion Interaction through Music Performance’ is a 3-year individual fellowship funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), started January 2016.
The general objective of the project is to enhance motion interaction by allowing skill learning through the use of interactive technology. The approach is comprised of two specific aims: to examine skilled activities, in particular music performance, in order to understand mechanisms of sensorimotor learning and expression in complex human movements; to design adaptive technology leveraging on theoretical findings in order to facilitate skill learning. To reach its goal, the project leverages on a multidisciplinary approach between experimental psychology, music technology and computational modelling. It contributes to two main uncharted research areas: the fundamental understanding of sensorimotor learning processes; and an original application of computational modelling of learning mechanisms to interactive technology.
The project is conducted by Baptiste Caramiaux between McGill University, Montreal, with Prof. Marcelo M. Wanderley (Department of Music Research) and Prof. Caroline Palmer (Department of Psychology), and IRCAM, Paris, with Dr Frédéric Bevilacqua.
